Consistency: The Key To Successful Results In Your Training

Even the most motivated person in the world will become unmotivated and slack off on occasion. It’s normal. However, that doesn’t mean we allow ourselves to stay that way. Our intentions are always pure. We mean to train hard and eat healthily. But a mindset that’s either too aggressive or unrealistic can railroad your progress. When it comes to exercise, consistency is key to achieving results. So how do you stay consistent with your training?

Realistic Expectations

Don’t set your sights too high; when you’re choosing a path, they suggest you set S.M.A.R.T. goals — that is, goals that are specific, measurable, attainable, realistic and timely.

Reduce stress by planning ahead

Setting small, achievable steps will reduce the stress of trying to achieve something with no action plan. Not only will this help you reduce stress by allowing you to feel like you’re in control, they’ll also help you manage your time better because you’ll have a specific schedule that you can stick to each week.

Don’t go at it alone

A study of 1,000 women found that 64 percent of those who run, go to the gym or attend group exercise classes with chums will push themselves harder than if they went alone.

Those who exercise together will train for longer, burn more calories and go to the gym more often.

Two-Day Rule

The Two-day rule may be a myth in dating, it is not a myth in training.  Studies have shown that you are more liking to skip a workout if you rest for more than two days.  The fact is that you don’t want to miss more than two days in a row if you can help it. Motivation alone is tough to get back after that, but the health effects are just as important. You may feel rested but, performance suffers because the nervous system is more sluggish after two days off, and it’s harder to get the nervous system excited/activated during the session.

Consistent training will take some time to develop. But it is the key to real results and real health benefits. The more consistently you train, the faster you will see the results you want. After a couple of weeks, it will be part of your everyday routine.
